Many Low Hour Pilot Jobs school with a Personal Pilot License (PPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL) find that they cannot secure airline jobs because of their limited flying hours. However, there are a number of jobs that accept low hour pilots which can help them build up their flight time and gain industry experience.
Air Charter
If you have a CPL, you can fly for an air charter company to help you build up your flying hours. These jobs can be a great way to work on your technique and develop your skills while earning some good money. Air Charter jobs are typically on-call and require you to be ready to fly at short notice, so they can be a good source of varied flying experience.
Banner Towing/Sightseeing Tours
Some companies offer banner towing or sightseeing tours which can be a fun and enjoyable way to build up your flight hours. These jobs are often conducted in single engine planes and require you to be able to entertain passengers, interact with them and make sure they have an amazing experience.
Pipeline & Powerline Patrol
Helicopters are usually used in pipeline patrol, but you can also do this job with fixed wing aircraft. This type of work is very specialised and carries the risk of damaging the gas or electric infrastructure, so it’s a very regulated industry with high standards. This is a very lucrative way to earn good money and can be quite fulfilling, but it’s also shift work so may not be suitable for some.
